Wool used for doll hair, devonshire / Mohair blend
Hand woven and braided
Following the artist’s research in translating filament-manipulation gestures into textile fibres, made with wool used for doll hair, this piece serves as a representation of the intangible relationship we hold with that collective of filaments we call hair. It is conceived as a living sculpture that captures a distant memory, the quiet intimacy of braiding someone else’s hair. It brings attention to the closeness that arises when someone allows you to touch their hair, a gesture that transcends care becoming connection.
It stands as a firm representation of dedication, time, and rituality we invest daily in this material that, personally for the artist, has become a site of questioning around beauty, femininity, care, and what it means to embody an identity.
This work is also a homage to the woven braid, a simple yet powerful structure that carries within it the tenderness of gesture, the patience of craft, and the memory of intimacy. Within its undone edges and raw fibres, the piece preserves the wild, unrefined essence of hair itself a reminder that beauty often resides in what resists control.
