Keys from Home is a collection of hand-carved alabaster keys. The work began from one of Yijia's earliest memories of home: her father always carried a small pouch of keys in his pocket, and as a child she believed he could open any door in the world with them. Over time, many of those places disappeared, demolished and erased through the processes of urban redevelopment.
By carving keys from alabaster, Yijia tries to conserve the memory of those places in a material that resists time. These keys no longer function, their forms altered and defunctionalised, echoing the inaccessibility of the spaces and memories they once promised to unlock.
