Filet Lace, Vintage Chair

Obedient Objects - Chair by Jingyi Li is crafted with handmade filet lace interwoven with a vintage chair. Lacemaking - a time and labour intensive, traditionally feminine skill - is central to her practice, and is used to investigate how soft materials and domestic objects carry power and record bodily knowledge. Through this process, making becomes a non-verbal form of writing, embedding memory, control, and intimacy into the object itself.
