"Leo Carlton’s exploration of material culture is light-hearted and entertaining, which within a frightening world, is a tonic for the soul" – Stephen Jones
Sarabande Alumni Leo Carlton gave new relevance to hat design, arguably London’s most conceptual milliners, since graduating from Cordwainers in 2015. Carlton has worked with Charles Jeffery, Stephen Jones, Dilaria Findikoglu, Ibriham Kamara, Paolina Russo, Richard Quinn, describing himself as a milliner and fashion artefact designer and has featured endless editorials including Another Man, British Vogue, Love Magazine, King Kong Magazine and Tank. “Positions of commandment and enlightenment in contemporary society still use headwear as a symbol of power,” - Leo Carlton
Carlton questioned mass consumerism, which highlights the interaction between the headwear and the wearer, using 3D at home, and used fermented plant starch materials to produce seamless, super-minimal creations. His versatility is what makes the milliner such an exciting talent. We're living in a time of great change, and we need solutions to our methods of consumption. Carlton is actively acting now, exploring solutions, making bio-degradable masks.
