Shinta Nakajima
Shinta Nakajima is an award-winning silversmith who produces ornaments and vessels using hammering and chasing techniques. His works are inspired by plants, with particular focus on forms of seeds and fruits. For Shinta, hammering is a very simple and somewhat meditative repetition. To create undulation, convex and concave, Shinta can hammer 3 times per second, 15,000 per hour and spends approximately 100 hours on each piece. He compares his creative process to the generative qualities of the seeds and fruits he is particularly inspired by - the beating of the metals intended to stir a person's primal senses. Shinta exhibited and sold works at Masterpiece London 2019.
