Workshop: 'Interaction of Colour' with Jan Urant

To mark this special evening workshop, artist Jan Urant invites participants to explore how colour, memory and emotion interact through a hands-on session rooted in pigment-making, colour theory, and personal storytelling.

Inspired by books such as I Send You This Cadmium Red by John Berger, and Jan’s own colourful, experimental practice, the workshop will guide attendees through the process of creating handmade paints using dry pigments. These pigments will form the basis for developing unique, personal colour palettes.

Throughout the session, Jan will share insights into the emotional and historical significance of colour, offering examples of how artists have used colour to shape meaning and perception over time.

Participants will be encouraged to reflect on a strong personal memory, choosing colour pairings and textures that speak to that moment. Through testing blends and viscosities across different papers and canvas, each person will build toward a final painted composition on wood.

This session is ideal for anyone interested in colour as a tool for self-expression, storytelling, and experimentation. No prior experience necessary.
