'The Lovers': a collection by Sarabande alumni Mairi Millar
In honour of Pride, we caught up with a few of our artists whose work champion ideas of self-love and Queer joy. We delved deep into their artistic journeys, revealing what inspired them and the messages they aim to communicate.
Trinidadian jeweller and Sarabande alumni Mairi Millar unveils ‘The Lovers’, a collection of silver pieces made to empower its wearers. Mairi has reimagined the crucifix, a symbol that has long carried guilt and shame within the queer community.
By deconstructing and multiplying the image of Jesus on the cross, she creates a powerful representation of a gay/bisexual Jesus, a symbol of strength and solidarity. Tender details such as the pair holding hands highlight a crucial message: Love is Love.
Mairi's jewellery is available in-store and online at House of Bandits, you can view all of the works for sale here.
