Sarabande at Soho Home: SOHO HOME Takeover
Sarabande SOHO HOME Takeover
27 April - 20 June
Soho Home Studio
6 Duke of York Square, SW3 4LY
TAKEOVER DATES:
27 April – 8 May: Martina Spetlova and Kirico Ueda
11– 22 May: Alice von Maltzhan and Aurora Pettinari York for London Craft Week
24 May – 5 June: Christopher Thompson Royds and Stephen Doherty for The Chelsea Flower Show
8 –20 June: Katy Mason and Shaina Craft for Women Artists' Awareness Week
Sarabande and Soho Home are coming together to celebrate their devotion to craftsmanship with a two month takeover in Soho Home’s West London studio.
In March 2022, Sarabande partnered with Soho Home for their BOUND Exhibition - a limited-edition hardbound book that showcases an eclectic collection of paper-based artworks created by 36 Sarabande artists. The unique collection celebrated the boundless creativity of the artists and the potential of paper.
A continuation of the collaboration, eight Sarabande artists from different disciplines make a creative home in the Soho Home across May and June. Traversing art, fashion, craft, painting, jewellery and more, this Sarabande staycation represents the diversity of the Foundation’s creative support.
Each fortnight, a different artistic duo will take up residence and the public is invited to explore their unique crafts. Firstly, kaleidoscopic woven leather by Martina Spetlova usually seen in her clothing will be transformed into furniture and home accessories, this will be accompanied by the delightful ceramic chess sets of Kirico Ueda. Later, Alice von Maltzahn’s intricate floral paper installations will blow across the walls alongside meticulously executed embroidery by Aurora Pettinari-York. For The Chelsea Flower Show, the glorious ink flowers of Stephen Doherty and Christopher Thompson-Royd’s exquisite golden floral wall sconces will be on display. Women Artists Art Week will partner large-scale oil paintings that question our relationship with our bodies by Shaina Craft with the up-cyclist jewellery and sculptures of Katy Mason.
