Phoebe Corker-Marin Solo Show: Tableaux of States of Rest
10th - 13th September, 2026
Tableaux of States of Rest, is the first London-based solo exhibition by sculptor Phoebe Corker-Marin.
This show presents twenty-four new sculptures weighing in on the relationship between spirituality and the body, made over the course of her residency at Sarabande.
Matters of the body are often placed in opposition to spirituality. The corporeal being is held up as the antithesis to spirituality, rather than as a vessel through which we experience the divine.
When we look at the stars, the faintest ones can only be seen on the periphery of our vision, disappearing when you focus directly on them. Through the looking glass, via the hagstone, out of the corner of your eye, other worlds are often easier to access sideways.
Using translucent and transparent materials, the bodies of Corker-Marin’s pedimental sculptures continually recede and resolve. Built to adorn temples by someone who isn’t sure where her spirituality is. But we are meaning making machines made to connect the dots. The less you see the more you imagine.
