A Visual Feast: Carson Lovett presents SS25 Collection

Presented through a look book online, Sarabande designer Carson Lovett’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection is as daring as ever, a visual feast with an ever-uncanny blend of aesthetics from bygone eras. Carson yet again defies convention, and demands attention.

A perfect blend of history, humour, and haute couture. We caught up with Carson, hearing the ins and outs of the collection from the designer himself:

“This collection is for those who move between the surreal and the real, blending different historical periods, patterns, and influences to create their own narrative in a world that often tries to impose one.”

Leveraging AI, Carson casted models and friends from all over the world, mapping their faces onto body doubles that were shot here in London, Kings Cross. The use of technology challenges conventional ideas of representation and beauty, reflecting the shifting dynamics of the information age. For this collection, Carson once again took inspiration from bohemianism, whilst combining this with various other inspirations:

“I envision this collection as a narrative that intertwines the bohemian spirit, the raw energy of street culture, and the rich drama of the Baroque.”

Influences from the contemporary thrift culture and the 'weird girl' aesthetic guided Carson’s approach to design and styling, prompting a deliberate embrace of unpredictability and eclecticism. For this collection, Carson worked with embroiderers and dyers in India, whose generational skills have been meticulously preserved, to reintroduce these artisanal practices into modern fashion.

This collection reflects my personal connection to California, as seen in the oversized t-shirts, tracksuit ensembles, hand-dyed basketball mesh, and the fluidity of bohemian skirts and satin fabrics that manipulate light. These elements collectively evoke a sense of dramatic tension akin to the chiaroscuro technique prominent in Baroque art.”

For Carson’s graduate collection, supported by Sarabande, we were taken on a whimsical journey through time as he drew inspiration from Pre-Raphaelite art, Meissen porcelain, and the delicate beauty of Victorian Sugar Shade lamps, reimagining pieces from the past with an extra dose of synthetic colour.
