Anna-Lena Krause and Sophie Mei Birkin's show We Are Just Another Body of Water curated by Hannah Geddes.
A body of water is held in one place long enough to be given a name. A lake keeps its shape while rain fills it and rivers carry it away. But water is not meant to be contained. It flows and resists its edges, passing through us, always moving on to another place.
We Are Just Another Body of Water brings together the work of Sophie Mei Birkin and Anna-Lena Krause to explore what happens when we resist control and remain in a constant state of becoming.
This state of flux becomes a form of resistance to the permanence of institutions, fixed identities and the boundaries between self and other. Working across different media, the artists use organic, synthetic and digital materials to blur these edges, suggesting that we can relinquish control and allow materials and matter to take over.
