13 July, What Kind of Artist Are You? - Practical Talk

'What Kind of Artist Are You?'

13 July 2023

19:00 - 21:00

Doors open at 19:00 for refreshments and talk starts at 19:30 on the dot!

In a world where it’s nigh on impossible to divorce the artist from the artwork, being a modern-day artist means branding comes as part of the job. You’re a sole trader so you are, in effect, the face of your brand.

There are the tick box criteria that you need ready at the drop of a hat such as your press releases, your bio, your ‘available works’ sheet. But then there are the more complex subtilties of how what you share of yourself reflects on your work: Which events do you show up at? How do you use social channels and what’s your tone? What do you wear? All the above plays into your artist identity, and it’s time to ask yourself: what kind of artist are you?

Take Grayson Perry, Tracey Emin and Banksy. They all put (or don’t put) very different personas out into the world, each of which inform who they work with, which galleries they show with and how their work is received.

To help demystify the components of the artist ‘brand’, Purple PR and experts from the art world are dishing out advice on how to put your best foot forward and ensure your artistic image is water tight.
