The Art of Curating Fashion with Andrew Bolton | Talks

28 June 2017

Thank you Andrew for flying over from NYC for your first patron event at Sarabande - an insight into curating some of the world's most visited fashion exhibitions.

Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Andrew Bolton spoke to Harriet Quick on the making of the magnificent monographic exhibition on Rei Kawakubo. Kawakubo is one of fashion's most elusive and impenetrable designers, she hates giving interviews, abhors categorisation and never looks back. Bolton revealed the challenges and triumphs in making this groundbreaking immersive show, and with Harriet Quick, editor and journalist, discusses the craft of curation and the role of The Costume Institute in interpreting fashion’s past and present.

Prior to joining The Met in 2002, Andrew worked at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London for nine years and has been a Patron of Sarabande since 2014. Andrew has curated some of the Met's most visited exhibitions, including Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, China: Through the Looking Glass, and Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. His latest exhibition, Rei Kawakubo/ Comme des Garçons: The Art of the In-Between is currently on view at The Met through 4 September and has achieved critical acclaim, worldwide.
