An innocence that is married with darkness: get to know Miya Kumo
"There is something special about making jewellery...it becomes such a personal part of you."
Miya Kumo primarily works with lost wax carving, a traditional technique that involves building a mold around a sacrificial wax model. After the mold investment is set, the wax is melted out to form a cavity where Miya uses silver and gold to capture every fine details.
Through the traditional method of craftsmanship, Miya explores themes of illusion, duality, and nature - drawing inspiration from fairytales, toys and miniature trinkets whilst weaving a sense of nostalgia into every piece.
There's a childlike essence to Miya's pieces, one of her pieces is an 18-karat gold-plated lucky shooting star...armed with two rifles - embracing an innocence that is married with darkness.
Currently in residency at our High Road studios, we caught up with Miya to hear all about her practice:
You can shop for Miya Kumo at our concept store, House of Bandits. Currently stocked is Miya's Fae Ring, the piece is gold-plated with pink tourmalines, diamonds and an emthyst center.
