Georgia Lucas-Going | Deptford X 2018 Platform
Georgia Lucas-Going, artist in residence at Sarabande Foundation has been selected to exhibit her piece of work, ‘Home is Where the Work Starts 1988’ for Deptford X Platform 2018, which showcases five emerging artists every year. Georgia’s work exists in a range of mediums, from installation to sculpture, performance and video art - the work confronts themes of stereotypes and power dynamics, whilst also exploring humour and self-taught 'survival techniques’. This particular video piece involved three generations of her family, who have all lost their greatest loves. A family of women outliving their male counterparts. Habits, rituals and physicality are all also integral themes in the video. This artwork has been filmed in various locations in and on the outskirts of London; from Luton to Deptford and everywhere in-between. Georgia was selected by Melanie Keen, the Director of Iniva. In her own words, “She prefaces the female body as central, as dominant, as material at a moment when women’s bodies are paradoxically subject to immense scrutiny and violation as much as being revered as a powerful collective political force.”
