Shinsuke Nakano
Central Saint Martins
MA Fashion Menswear
Shinsuke Nakano’s designs are influenced by his studies of art history, art theory and traditional Japanese arts and crafts. His most recent work explores how clothes are perceived by the blind, setting up textile workshops for those with sight loss, and learning techniques to create texture by sculpting materials.
Shinsuke was chosen for the Sarabande scholarship by Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. Since graduating from the Fashion MA Womenswear course at Central St Martins, Shinsuke has used a studio at Sarabande HQ to work on his own projects, whilst also starting his Practice-based Research Program (PhD/MPhil) in art and design, also at Central St Martins.
