Julia Curtin

Julia Curtin received her Master’s degree in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art in 2014 and was selected in 2015 for Bloomberg New Contemporaries. Her practice incorporates photography and sculpture with a concern for mobilising the photograph as an object or material, and deals with memory and history through the translation of notions of the photographic document. This sculptural approach extends from her working process to the modes of display she employs. Julia has shown in the UK and internationally including group shows at the Photographers’ Gallery, London, Paper, Rock, Scissors: The Constructed Image in New British Photography, an exhibition curated as part of the Flash Forward Festival, Toronto, and FotoFest’s International Discoveries Biennial exhibition, Houston.  She is a recipient of the PhotoWorks Graduate Award and the Rhubarb Arts Council Bursary Award. Her work has featured in the British Journal of Photography, the German publication VORN | Progressive Words & Visuals and the Photographic Resource Center at Boston University’s journal Loupe. Julia was awarded a one year studio residency at Sarabande: The Lee Alexander McQueen Foundation from 2015 to 2016.
