Hailing from Germany, Emil Leon Dernbach hmoved to London to pursue his studies at Central Saint Martins. In his placement year, he interned at Maison Margiela in Paris in the Artisanal department and was afterwards offered a job within the company in the Ready-to-Wear department.

Emil's practice focuses on the idea of human and machine collaboration and tries to dissect how much of ourselves is influenced by Artificial Intelligence on a daily basis. Through his work, he is aiming to establish a proposal for how A.I. can positively influence our creative practice and aid us in creating more exciting and nuanced work. Throughout his process, Emil utilises 3D Scanning, 3D Sculpting, A.I. and multiple other digital manipualtion and creation tools, acknowledging them as part of the collective process and not the outcome.

The result of this process led to a collection that focused on human craft and craftsmanship (felting, welding, hand sewing) whilst the research was focused on the digital.
