From its inception in 2017, the annual Summer Group Show has been a fantastic way for Sarabande to show the public what the artists-in-residence have been creating in their year at Sarabande. Each year we have been shocked by the incredible response and attendance the show attracts: major London galleries, artists, journalists, and collectors.
SERVED marks the culmination of a year at Sarabande and traces developing relationships and building experiences at the Foundation. Although the previous year presented unique challenges with multiple lockdowns and social distancing, each artist has succeeded in extending their practices.
This group of eleven Sarabande artists became suspended from the hyper-reality of the virus. They became an unconventional family, forging togetherness through isolation. This subject inspired the group’s first work together: the House of Bandits window display ‘Family Portrait’ curated by Robert George Sanders where each of the artists’ works were exhibited as part of a character within a diorama.
The group brings together a variety of creative fields united by their newfound Sarabande community in the safety of seclusion.
