SARABANDE X theVOV - THE VIRTUAL GALLERY TOUR CORPUS MENTIS WITH HIKARI YOKOYAMA
Sarabande celebrates art, craft, fashion and jewellery, and in a world where we have become increasingly separated, our upcoming exhibition in partnership with theVOV brings us all back together to enjoy art in one virtual space shared with some of the UK’s most pioneering arts institutions.
Launching on 17 May, our virtual gallery will be the highlight of the week. Presenting a collision of art, fashion, photography, ceramic sculpture, painting, artistic prosthetics and performance in Corpus Mentis, co-curated by Hikari Yokoyama and Sarabande Creative Director Trino Verkade - this unique show bonds seven female visionary creatives from Sarabande: Paloma Tendero, Shannon Bono, Sian Fan, Roberts Wood, Camilla Hanney, Kristina Walsh and Auroboros. This digital extension of Sarabande is a new way to experience the work of our Sarabande artists.
On 9 June, we’ll be hosting a live online tour of the exhibition with co-curator Hikari Yokoyama walking you through Corpus Mentis acting as a lens by which the viewer can peer into the world of exhibiting artists.
Born in Tokyo and brought up in Chicago, Hikari studied at Columbia University. Working for gallerist and dealer Jeffrey Deitch, she became immersed in the art world, doing art advisory, independent curatorial projects, and commissioning artists. Starting the art news blog ArtObserved, and later joining Alexander Gilkes and Aditya Julka in a plan to revolutionse the art world through the internet, Paddle8 was successfully launched.
Moving to London with her now-fiancé Jay Jopling, Hikari began consulting for Audi, Prada, Miu Miu, Bombay Sapphire, Gucci, Tiffany & Co, Spring Studios, Caprice Holdings and others. Currently a contributing editor at British Vogue under editor Edward Enninful, Hikari uses her background in art and the digital sphere to create audiences through cultural experiences, and is passionate about social entrepreneurship, particularly in empowering women.
