Heavenly Bodies at The Metropolitan Museum of Art

On Monday 7th May, we were invited by Andrew Bolton, Sarabande patron and Head Curator of the Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, to an exclusive first look at ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’.

The exhibit spotlights fashion’s ongoing, creative exchange with the devotional practices and traditions of Catholicism. Fashions from the early 20th century right up to present day are featured in the show, including papal robes and accessories from the Sistine Chapel sacristy.

Also included in the exhibit mare Sarabande alumni Craig Green and of course Sarabande’s founder Lee Alexander McQueen. Multiple designs by McQueen feature including garments from his time at Givenchy as well as those from his namesake brand. Green’s Embroidered Tapestry Robe from his AW17 collection features as well as hand-painted fabrics from AW14. See images from our visit below.

Heavenly Bodies is running from May 10th until October 8th 2018. For more information, head to https://www.metmuseum.org/exhibitions/listings/2018/heavenly-bodies
