Camilla Hanney: 2024 Ingram Prize Finalist
We’re so excited to share that Sarabande artist Camilla Hanney is a 2024 Ingram Prize Finalist! Known for her incredible ceramics, sculptures, and installations, Camilla’s work dives into themes like time, sexuality, cultural identity, and the body—often with a mix of humour and something a little more thought-provoking.
For the Ingram Prize, Camilla presented Slippery Endings, a ceramic sculptural vessel with iridescent pink tentacles spilling out:
“Slippery Endings’ delves into the themes of fear and power associated with the feminine form. The piece features a delicately crafted vessel from which iridescent pink lustre tentacles cascade, evoking both allure and unease. The tentacles symbolize the intertwining of beauty and monstrosity, challenging traditional notions of femininity by embracing its darker, more enigmatic aspects. The contrast between the smooth vessel and the serpentine appendages invites the viewer to confront their own perceptions of the feminine and the monstrous.”
